03 / LOOK BEYOND THE HEADLINE
Know what you’re
paying for.
A formation service fee is only one line in the budget. These are the questions worth asking before you check out.
What is the difference between the service fee and state fees?
The service fee pays the provider for the work described in its offer. State filing charges are separate government fees and vary by state and filing. Ask for an itemized total before paying.
What happens when an introductory offer ends?
Check the renewal price and billing terms for each included service. Ask what renews automatically, how to cancel, and what you’ll need to do if you change providers.
Which optional services do I actually need?
Review each add-on individually. Ask what it does, whether it’s required for your circumstances, and whether you can handle it yourself or with an existing advisor.
Does formation replace legal, tax, or insurance advice?
No. A filing service does not determine the right legal structure, tax election, property ownership arrangement, or coverage for you. Discuss those decisions with qualified professionals who know your situation.
